Fix SPF, DKIM, or DMARC Problems for Website Email in Granger

Identify every legitimate sender using the business domain, then make SPF, DKIM, and DMARC describe those real sending paths accurately.

SPF, DKIM, and DMARC should describe the systems that really send mail for the domain.

Copying generic DNS records without mapping the sending path first can create failures instead of fixing them.

Identify every legitimate sender

List the systems that send as the business domain, such as:

  • mailbox provider;
  • website contact forms;
  • transactional mail service;
  • invoicing or scheduling platform;
  • other authorized applications.

Do not add a sender to DNS merely because a vendor suggests it if the business does not actually use that service.

Check SPF as one policy

SPF authorizes sending hosts for the envelope sender domain.

RFC 7208 specifies that a domain should not publish multiple SPF records that cause more than one SPF policy to be selected.

If several legitimate services send mail, their authorization needs to be represented within one valid SPF policy.

Verify DKIM from the actual sending service

DKIM uses a cryptographic signature tied to a signing domain and published public key.

Use the provider-specific selector and key exactly as the sending service documents it.

A DKIM record copied from another account or domain will not authenticate the current sender correctly.

Check DMARC alignment

DMARC evaluates whether authenticated SPF or DKIM identities align with the visible From domain.

That is why a message can technically pass SPF for one domain yet still fail DMARC alignment for another visible From domain.

Retest after DNS changes

Use real test messages and inspect authentication results after caches have had time to update.

Do not promise inbox placement: authentication is one part of deliverability, not a guarantee.
