3-Way Temperature Sensor

An Atmega-based instrument for monitoring the temperatures of three devices at the same time.

This was a project I undertook to experiment with creating a complete prototype using my electronics skills. I 3D-printed the housing and lined the back with magnets so it could adhere to the metal surfaces of the units being measured.

This project filled a practical need: it could simultaneously monitor three items, identify when one was overheating, and graph their temperature histories.

It worked fine on its first power-up.

Instrument specifications

  • Measurement channels: Three devices measured simultaneously
  • Controller: Atmega microcontroller
  • Display: LCD showing the current temperature for each channel
  • Recorded values: Current, high, and average temperature for each individual device
  • Purpose: Monitoring equipment and other items for signs of overheating
  • Construction: Enclosed electronic instrument with probe connections, indicator lights, power switch, and battery power
