Do not cancel a hosted website platform before creating an independent copy of the business-owned material needed to rebuild elsewhere.

A platform export is useful, but it may not contain every part of the live site.

## Use the platform's current export tools first

Export every supported content type and data set the business is entitled to take.

The available formats vary by platform, so current vendor documentation should be checked before migration.

Keep the original export file even if a conversion step will be needed later.

## Capture what exports often miss

Separately record:

- current public URLs;
- page titles and descriptions;
- navigation;
- redirects;
- form structure;
- integration settings;
- structured fields;
- analytics identifiers;
- important platform configuration.

These details can matter even when the page text itself exports cleanly.

## Download original media where possible

Preserve original image, document, video, or other business-owned assets rather than relying only on screenshots of rendered pages.

Keep filenames or a mapping that makes the assets understandable later.

## Store the archive outside the platform

The only copy of the migration archive should not live inside the account that is about to be closed.

Use business-controlled storage appropriate to the material.

## Verify the archive before cancellation

Open the exported files, inspect a sample of records, confirm media access, and make sure the important URL inventory exists.

An export that cannot be read is not a recovery plan.
