A useful link tells the visitor what will happen when they follow it.

Repeated labels such as “click here” or “learn more” become especially confusing when several of them lead to different destinations.

## Name the destination or action

Instead of:

use wording tied to the actual purpose, such as:

- View website repair services
- Read the mobile form guide
- Download the setup checklist
- Contact the business about an estimate

The exact wording should match the real destination.

## Context matters, but stronger link text helps

WCAG's Level A requirement allows link purpose to be determined from the link text together with its programmatically associated context in many cases.

There is also a stricter Level AAA criterion focused on link purpose from the link text alone.

In ordinary business content, descriptive anchor text is usually the clearer choice even when nearby context could technically explain the link.

## Distinguish repeated links

If several cards all use “Learn more,” a screen-reader link list or quick visual scan provides little clue about which destination is which.

Use labels that distinguish the service, article, or action.

## Icon-only links need an understandable name

A social icon, download icon, or other graphical link should still communicate its purpose to assistive technology.

The visible icon does not eliminate the need for an accessible name.

## Do not turn anchors into SEO slogans

Descriptive does not mean stuffing exact-match search phrases into every link.

Use the words a person needs to predict the destination.
