"I have a weird little job nobody else wants" is a legitimate service question.

It is not an automatic yes.

**Switchboard Tech Services will evaluate unusual small jobs in Kirksville individually to see whether they fit the practical model: van + human hands + ordinary equipment + reasonable judgment.**

## Describe the actual job

A useful first description includes:

- what the item or task is;
- where it is located;
- what outcome is wanted;
- approximate size or weight when relevant;
- photos or a model number when they clarify the work;
- anything involving power, plumbing, gas, chemicals, height, or moving loads.

Sometimes the "weird" job turns out to match an existing Switchboard service. When it does, the more specific service defines the scope.

## The evaluation is part of the service model

A small job can still create large risk.

Before accepting it, Switchboard considers whether the job is lawful, authorized, physically manageable, reasonably equipped, and within actual skills.

Property-damage risk matters too. "Technically possible" is not the same as "sensible to offer."

A decline is a normal outcome of the evaluation.

## Some boundaries do not move

This service does not cover licensed electrical, plumbing, gas, HVAC, structural, roofing, or similar trade work.

It also excludes:

- dangerous-height or unsafe ladder work;
- hazardous materials or biohazards;
- weapons work;
- medical equipment or regulated care;
- vehicle safety-critical repair;
- commercial or industrial rigging;
- security bypass, lock defeat, unauthorized surveillance, or illegal activity;
- heavy specialty moving.

The customer calling something easy does not remove those boundaries.

## No drilling or permanent fastening into the building

The General / Small-Job branch does not drill, nail, screw, anchor, or permanently fasten items into walls, studs, trim, doors, window frames, floors, ceilings, built-ins, permanent cabinetry, or other permanent parts of a customer's home.

If permanent building attachment is central to the job, this branch is not the right fit.

## An accepted job gets a narrow scope

When an unusual request does fit, the agreement should be specific about what Switchboard will and will not do.

If one portion is safe and ordinary while another portion requires a specialist, the safe portion can sometimes be separated rather than pretending the entire project belongs under one service.

The point of this page is flexibility with a gate, not "anything goes." If the job is small, lawful, manageable, and genuinely compatible with the van-and-human-hands model, it is worth asking.
