Turn One Broad Service Page Into a Useful Topic Structure in Hurdland
Split an overloaded service page only where distinct customer needs deserve distinct pages, while keeping closely related material together and linking the structure clearly.
A broad service page should be split only when the material contains genuinely different customer needs.
The goal is not to create more URLs. The goal is to make each important subject easier to understand.
Inventory what is crammed into the page
List the services, problems, questions, and decisions currently sharing the same page.
Then group them by reader intent.
If several sections all answer the same basic question, they may still belong together.
Give a topic its own URL when it can stand alone
A separate page makes more sense when the subject has:
- a distinct customer problem;
- enough useful explanation;
- different scope or limitations;
- different preparation or process;
- a different decision path.
If the page would contain only a paragraph and repeat the broad overview, keep it with the parent topic.
Keep the broad page useful
The overview page should not become an empty list of links.
It should explain the broader service, help visitors understand the main categories, and point to deeper pages where more detail is genuinely useful.
That makes it a hub rather than a doorway.
Link both directions
Detailed pages should link back to the broader service context when useful.
The broad page should link down to the deeper topics.
Related detailed pages can link sideways when the relationship helps the reader.
Do not split by keyword-tool phrasing
Different search phrases can describe the same need.
Create the content structure around the customer problem first, then use natural phrasing within the appropriate page.
