Squarespace can export some content, but a migration should not assume that every page, layout, style, and feature will transfer intact.

Current Squarespace documentation says its export produces WordPress-format XML for certain content types and explicitly notes that not everything exports.

## Inventory before exporting

Record:

- pages;
- blog posts;
- products where used;
- forms;
- media;
- navigation;
- scripts;
- analytics;
- domain and DNS settings;
- integrations.

That inventory becomes the checklist for what must be exported, copied, rebuilt, or deliberately retired.

## Know what the export does not preserve

Squarespace currently documents several types of content and presentation that do not export through its normal site export, including some page types, style settings, custom CSS, and certain platform-specific blocks or features.

That means the destination site must often rebuild presentation and functionality rather than simply import a complete copy.

## Preserve content intent and URLs

If a service page still serves the same purpose, keep its URL where practical.

When a path must change, map the old URL to the closest genuine replacement and configure a redirect.

Do not rewrite the whole URL structure merely because the platform changed.

## Check forms and commerce separately

Forms, store features, search, embedded tools, and other interactive components may need their own migration plan.

Treat them as functional requirements, not content blocks.

## Verify before cutover

Test the new site while the old one still works.

Confirm navigation, media, forms, redirects, mobile behavior, analytics, and any necessary commerce or third-party functions before changing DNS.
