Tor: How do I update Tor Browser?

Short answer

Keep Tor Browser current because browser security fixes can affect anonymity as well as ordinary web safety. On desktop, use its update prompt and restart when asked; on Android, update through the source that installed the app. If automatic updating fails, follow the Tor Project's current manual-update instructions rather than downloading a package from an untrusted site.
