Tor: Can opening a downloaded document reveal my identity?

Yes. A PDF or office document can contain remote resources that an external viewer fetches outside Tor, revealing your ordinary IP address to the resource's server. Tor Browser warns before opening some files in external applications. Use its built-in PDF viewer where suitable, or inspect documents in an isolated, offline environment when anonymity matters.
