## Why this matters

A tiny invisible image can tell a marketer that you opened a message and when you did it. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.

## The protection

Proton Mail blocks known tracking pixels on its supported web and mobile apps.

## Take action

Keep email tracking protection enabled on every device. Novel trackers and deliberate link clicks may still disclose activity. Email protection depends on the route and settings. Ordinary mail involving outside providers is not automatically end-to-end encrypted, and email metadata is not universally hidden.
