Switch to Protonmail Reason #5: Reduce what your email provider can disclose about message contents

A provider cannot casually hand over readable stored contents it does not possess in readable form.

Why this matters

A provider cannot casually hand over readable stored contents it does not possess in readable form. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.

The protection

Proton's zero-access design limits provider access to stored message bodies and attachments.

Take action

Choose an encrypted mailbox for future mail. This does not make sender, recipient, and other mail metadata disappear. Email protection depends on the route and settings. Ordinary mail involving outside providers is not automatically end-to-end encrypted, and email metadata is not universally hidden.
