Switch to Protonmail Reason #39: Move a custom-domain address without giving every contact a new identity
An address tied to one provider can make leaving that provider costly, even when its privacy terms disappoint you.
Why this matters
An address tied to one provider can make leaving that provider costly, even when its privacy terms disappoint you. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.
The protection
Eligible Proton plans allow a custom domain, which you control separately from the mail host.
Take action
Use a domain you own if long-term portability matters. Domain registration and DNS configuration add cost and responsibility. Email protection depends on the route and settings. Ordinary mail involving outside providers is not automatically end-to-end encrypted, and email metadata is not universally hidden.
