Switch to Protonmail Reason #31: Filter known spam and malware before it lands in your inbox
Malicious attachments and scam campaigns often arrive as ordinary-looking mail.
Why this matters
Malicious attachments and scam campaigns often arrive as ordinary-looking mail. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.
The protection
Proton checks unencrypted incoming mail for spam, phishing, and malware before encrypting it in storage.
Take action
Keep filtering enabled and verify unexpected attachments. Automated checks are fallible and do process unencrypted incoming mail. Email protection depends on the route and settings. Ordinary mail involving outside providers is not automatically end-to-end encrypted, and email metadata is not universally hidden.
