Switch to Protonmail Reason #27: Protect your mailbox with a security key or authenticator-based two-factor login

A stolen password can give an intruder access to your inbox and the reset links for many other accounts.

Why this matters

A stolen password can give an intruder access to your inbox and the reset links for many other accounts. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.

The protection

Proton supports two-factor authentication through an authenticator or a registered security key.

Take action

Enable it now, secure recovery options, and use a unique password. Two-factor protection does not fix a compromised unlocked device. Email protection depends on the route and settings. Ordinary mail involving outside providers is not automatically end-to-end encrypted, and email metadata is not universally hidden.
