Switch to Protonmail Reason #22: Set an expiration date on a password-protected external message
A sensitive link should not stay available indefinitely after its purpose ends.
Why this matters
A sensitive link should not stay available indefinitely after its purpose ends. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.
The protection
Proton password-protected external messages have an expiration period that you can adjust within its limits.
Take action
Choose the shortest practical expiry and verify the recipient received the separate password. Expiry cannot erase screenshots or saved copies. Email protection depends on the route and settings. Ordinary mail involving outside providers is not automatically end-to-end encrypted, and email metadata is not universally hidden.
