## Why this matters

A file presented as an invoice or update can be a malicious program. One download may put the whole device at risk. Privacy is easier to defend before this information is collected than after it has spread.

## The protection

On desktop, Brave's Safe Browsing warns about dangerous or unwanted downloads.

## Take action

Pause before opening unexpected files and verify their source. Do not override a warning merely because a page tells you to. Brave reduces common tracking, but a site you sign in to still knows what you do there. Ordinary browsing also reveals your IP address to the destination.
