**You can publish an online bulletin without creating a user account or public profile.** On [Qwibbit](https://qwibbit.com/), you write a note, save a private ownership secret generated for that note, and pay for its board time with Bitcoin Lightning. After payment is verified, the bulletin becomes public at its own web address.

The important tradeoff is straightforward: you avoid making a social-media identity, but you must safeguard the secret that gives you control of the post. **This is the first-post walkthrough**, from a private draft to a public URL. Account-free publishing is not guaranteed anonymity; before publishing sensitive personal or public-interest information, use the separate [privacy and disclosure-risk guide](https://switchboardtechservices.com/guides/publish-information-without-public-identity-or-social-media/) to decide whether a public bulletin is appropriate at all.

## What replaces the usual username and password?

Conventional publishing sites often connect every contribution to a login, profile, and history of activity. Qwibbit instead gives **each post its own 64-character ownership secret**. Its public address identifies the bulletin; its secret authorizes editing, deleting, and adding board time.

That arrangement separates *what is being published* from *who has a public profile*. People can read the bulletin without knowing the author's name, and the author can manage it without creating a conventional customer account.

It is a limited form of access control, not an invisibility system. Anyone who obtains the secret can manage that specific post. Qwibbit stores a verification hash rather than a recoverable copy, so a forgotten secret cannot be reset by email or retrieved from support.

## Publish a bulletin in five steps

### 1. Open the public posting form

Go to [Qwibbit's Create Post page](https://qwibbit.com/api/qwibbs/create/). It asks for the note and an optional field for category IDs. It does **not** ask you to register a username or publish your name.

Public submissions go to **Board 1 (Bulletins)**. Board 2 (Discover) is a separate curated directory of websites; including a website address in your bulletin does not automatically add it there.

### 2. Write something a stranger can understand

Put a short, descriptive statement on the first line. Qwibbit uses that first line as the bulletin's heading. In the remaining lines, explain what you are offering, requesting, announcing, or trying to find. Add a working web link if the destination matters.

For example, this is an *illustrative* bulletin, not an actual live posting:

> Looking for an old computer repair manual
>
> I'm trying to identify a repair manual for a specific vintage computer. If you know a legitimate archive or publisher source, please share a link.
>
> Reference information: <https://example.com/>
>
> # retrocomputing

Replace the example with truthful details. The example includes no contact method, so it is useful as a public request but does not provide a way to receive a private reply. **Qwibbit does not supply private messaging.** If you want replies, provide a contact address or contact-page link only if you are comfortable making it public. A project-specific contact route may limit how much personal information you expose.

You can optionally enter up to **three category IDs**, all belonging to Board 1. IDs such as `c12` or `12` are accepted when those categories exist. Hashtags in the note can also help readers browse relevant topics. Plain text and basic emphasis work; Qwibbit does not promise full Markdown rendering.

### 3. Create a private draft and save the secret

Select **Create draft**. Qwibbit generates an ownership secret and displays it **once**. Save both the secret and the post's address before leaving.

A password manager or another private, securely backed-up location is more dependable than relying on a browser tab or clipboard. For a concrete storage option, [Bitwarden's secure-note documentation](https://bitwarden.com/help/managing-items/) explains how to store protected freeform text; whichever vault you choose, protect access to it and maintain a recoverable backup. Do not paste the Qwibb secret into the note, send it in a support message, append it to a URL, or put it in a public screenshot.

The browser uses an owner session immediately after creation, but that session is not a replacement for preserving the secret. If you later need to regain owner access on another browser, the secret is what matters.

**At this stage the new bulletin is still private.** Creating the draft is not publication; ordinary visitors cannot read the unpaid note, even if they guess its address.

### 4. Choose board time and pay the Lightning invoice

On the private owner page, choose the number of whole hours you want the bulletin displayed. Check the current price in **satoshis (sats)** and the duration before paying.

Qwibbit generates a Bitcoin Lightning invoice. Pay it using a compatible wallet by scanning its QR code or copying the invoice. **Opening an invoice, tapping a payment button, or returning from a wallet is not proof of settlement.** Qwibbit must verify the payment before the first public posting is authorized.

The site's [current posting and payment rules](https://qwibbit.com/index/) describe the rate, verification process, and non-refundable payment policy. Review the actual quote on your owner page rather than relying on an older article's price.

If you are unfamiliar with Lightning, Switchboard also has a [beginner's guide to paying Bitcoin Lightning invoices](https://switchboardtechservices.com/guides/how-to-use-bitcoin-lightning-quickly-and-easily/).

### 5. Check the public bulletin

After verified settlement, open the bulletin's public `/q<ID>` URL and check the heading, links, categories, and any contact information. Its address remains the same if you later edit the note.

A published bulletin may appear on its assigned category and hashtag boards while paid board time remains. When that time expires, the bulletin leaves those active listings and their RSS feeds, **but an eligible previously published note can still be read at its public URL**. Owner deletion or moderation can remove public access; permanent *address* does not mean guaranteed permanent hosting.

## What stays private, and what becomes public?

A useful way to assess account-free publishing is to separate three different layers:

| Layer | What to expect |
| --- | --- |
| **Public bulletin** | Its text, links, chosen contact details, category and hashtag context, and ordinary page metadata become readable after publication. Others may quote or copy that material. |
| **Owner access** | The secret controls one post. It is not displayed to readers. An unpaid draft remains private until verified first payment. |
| **Operational and payment records** | The service needs session/security cookies and maintains records such as invoice amounts, payment references, and timestamps. Hosting and network services may log IP addresses and requests. Your wallet has its own records and privacy terms. |

According to [Qwibbit's published privacy explanation](https://qwibbit.com/index/), the site does not use advertising trackers or an analytics system. That statement describes its published policy; it does **not** mean requests leave no records or that payments cannot be associated with participants.

Qwibbit uses hosting from Opalstack and Lightning payment infrastructure involving Breez SDK and Spark. Externally hosted images in public notes may cause browsers to contact other websites. The payment wallet you choose may require identity verification or retain transaction information.

**Not requiring a public profile reduces one kind of exposure. It does not hide your IP address, make Bitcoin Lightning untraceable, or prevent someone from identifying themselves through details they publish.**

## What if I lose the secret, delete the note, or need to change it?

**If you lose the secret:** You lose normal owner access. There is no account-recovery process. Support cannot recover it. Treat the secret as the sole credential for the bulletin.

**If you need to edit:** Open the post and use its owner-access option to supply the secret, then change the text or assigned categories. A published post keeps its original URL. Qwibbit does not publish a complete revision history.

**If you want to add time:** The owner page allows recharge by Lightning. Paying again does not override removal or moderation.

**If you delete the note:** It is removed from public access, but deletion is not a promise that every underlying record or external copy disappears. Qwibbit's privacy policy says the database record and payment/accounting records may remain, as may backups, logs, and material copied by others. No fixed retention period is published for all such records.

For more detailed credential-handling practices, see Switchboard's planned guide to [managing a bulletin with its ownership secret](https://switchboardtechservices.com/guides/manage-a-bulletin-with-an-ownership-secret/). For specific payment and recharge instructions, see the planned [Qwibbit Lightning bulletin payment guide](https://switchboardtechservices.com/guides/pay-for-a-bulletin-with-lightning/).

## Who benefits from publishing this way?

Account-free posting can be useful when the **information should have a public address but the author does not need a public persona**: a new website announcement, a local request, a small-service notice, or a practical resource link.

That does not make every bulletin trustworthy. Readers should assess claims and destination links on their merits. Qwibbit's [community rules and moderation policy](https://qwibbit.com/index/) still apply, including restrictions on scams, spam, impersonation, and exposing other people's private information.

The practical principle is **publish the information people need, keep your owner secret private, and disclose personal details only when they serve a real purpose**. A public profile is optional; responsible publishing and honest privacy expectations are not.
