## Short answer

A zap is a Lightning payment with Nostr events that let clients show the payment in context. NIP-57 defines a zap request and a receipt issued after payment, so a client can connect the payment to a person or post. Zaps depend on compatible wallet and recipient setup; a displayed button alone does not prove a payment succeeded. Check the wallet's payment record when it matters.
