How to Use the Kirksville Brush Site

The Kirksville Brush Site is for City residents disposing of yard waste, trees, limbs and brush. It is not a general landfill, plastic bags must be removed, and contractors need the required City business-use authorization.

The Kirksville Brush Site is not a general dump.

It exists for a narrow material stream: yard waste, trees, limbs and brush.

Location

The current City page lists the Brush Site at:

22376 Missouri State Highway 6

Who can use it?

Current City guidance describes the site as available to Kirksville residents.

Contractors using the site for business operations have a separate licensing requirement.

Do not assume residential access automatically covers commercial hauling.

What can go there?

The current City Street Maintenance guidance identifies:

  • yard waste;
  • trees;
  • limbs;
  • brush.

Keep other trash and debris out.

The site is not the place for:

  • household garbage;
  • construction debris;
  • appliances;
  • hazardous waste;
  • random mixed loads.

Remove plastic bags

If yard waste arrives in plastic bags, empty the material and remove the bags.

Plastic is not part of the accepted brush/yard-waste stream.

That small rule matters because contamination can threaten continued site access.

Current access status

As of September 27, 2026, City pages describe the site as open full-time or 24/7 for Kirksville residents.

Access policy can change.

If the trip is unusual or involves a large load, verify the live City page first.

Contractors have different rules

Businesses using the site need the applicable City license.

The current business-licensing page also lists a separate annual business-use fee.

Fees are time-sensitive.

This article does not freeze the current amount into long-term guidance.

Why the rules matter

The City warns that misuse can lead to fines, penalties or restrictions.

That is not surprising.

A brush site only works when people keep household trash and other debris out of the material stream.

Brush Site versus curbside pickup

The Brush Site is the self-haul option.

Kirksville also has seasonal curbside brush pickup and other yard-waste collection paths.

Those programs have different timing and set-out rules.

Do not assume material accepted at the Brush Site can always be left curbside at any time.

Simple checklist

Before going:

  • confirm you are eligible;
  • verify current access;
  • separate brush/yard waste from other debris;
  • remove plastic bags;
  • check contractor requirements if the load comes from business work.
