Rotary Park in Kirksville: Facilities, Recreation and What to Expect

Rotary Park combines three picnic shelters, a playground, disc golf, the Kirksville Aquatic Center, an amphitheatre, restrooms and a popular sledding area.

Rotary Park at 801 E. Mill St. is one of Kirksville's more varied recreation sites. It is not just a playground with a shelter: the park also contains the Aquatic Center, an amphitheatre, disc golf and winter sledding space.

The City says the park was originally called Swimming Pool Park.

Three covered shelters

Rotary has three covered picnic shelters, all currently described by the City as having electricity and barbecue grills.

  • Lower Shelter: 20 by 48 feet, eight tables.
  • Middle Shelter: 20 by 38 feet, five tables.
  • East Shelter: 20 by 50 feet, six tables.

Table count is not an official occupancy rating, but it is useful when comparing the three.

The shelters can be reserved through the City's rental system. For the current reservation process and fee, see How to Reserve a Picnic Shelter in Kirksville.

Playground and restrooms

The City lists a playground structure and restrooms at Rotary Park.

For families choosing among several playgrounds, Which Kirksville Parks Have Playgrounds? compares the current City-listed options.

Kirksville Aquatic Center

The Kirksville Aquatic Center is inside Rotary Park.

Its indoor pool operates separately from the seasonal outdoor water park, and its hours, admissions and programs change more often than the park's physical amenities. See Kirksville Aquatic Center: Pools, Water Park, Passes and Programs before planning around swimming.

Disc golf and winter sledding

The City currently lists a nine-hole disc-golf course at Rotary Park.

This article does not attempt a hole-by-hole course guide or assume equipment is provided. Course configuration can also change independently of the general park page.

Rotary is also described by the City as a popular snow-sledding area, giving the park a winter use that many of the other City parks do not emphasize.

Ray Klinginsmith Amphitheatre

The Ray Klinginsmith Amphitheatre is another facility within Rotary Park.

Event schedules are separate from the permanent park listing, so check current Parks & Recreation information when an event is the reason for the visit.

The Veterans Memorial Plaza is adjacent, not the same facility

Adair County Veterans Memorial Plaza sits adjacent to Rotary Park at 1201 N. Baltimore St.

The City says a small portion of Rotary Park land was donated in 2000 for the memorial. Treat the memorial plaza as an adjacent destination rather than folding its monuments into Rotary's ordinary amenity list.
