How to Reserve a Picnic Shelter in Kirksville

Kirksville City park shelters can be reserved online through the City's Registration and Rental Portal or by contacting Parks & Recreation.

The City's current Ballfields page says shelter reservations open starting in January of that calendar year. As of the September 2026 check for this article, the posted shelter fee is $40 per rental.

Fees and availability can change, so verify the live portal before paying or planning an event.

Step 1: Choose a shelter before opening the portal

The City's current park descriptions provide useful size and table information.

Park	Shelter	Published size	Tables	Electricity	Grill
Brashear	Main shelter	15 x 35 ft.	6	Yes	Yes
Jaycee	Main shelter	20 x 60 ft.	7	Yes	Yes
Memorial	Main shelter	14 x 33 ft.	2	Yes	Yes
North Park	Main shelter	20 x 50 ft.	4	Yes	Not listed
Patryla	Main shelter	10 x 20 ft.	2	Yes	Not listed
P.C. Mills	Main shelter	20 x 40 ft.	3	Yes	Yes
Rotary	Lower	20 x 48 ft.	8	Yes	Yes
Rotary	Middle	20 x 38 ft.	5	Yes	Yes
Rotary	East	20 x 50 ft.	6	Yes	Yes

A table count is not an official occupancy limit. If group capacity matters, confirm it with Parks & Recreation.

The FLATS Trailhead also has a covered shelter with two picnic tables and electrical outlets, but the current general park page does not present it with the same reservation link as the listed reservable shelters. Do not assume it can be booked without checking the live portal.

Step 2: Check the surrounding park

The shelter itself is only part of the decision.

A family gathering may care more about:

• nearby playgrounds;
• restrooms;
• basketball or softball;
• water play;
• walking paths;
• Aquatic Center access.

Step 3: Reserve through the current City system

Use the City's Registration and Rental Portal, or call Parks & Recreation at 660-627-1485.

Do not treat submitting a form as permission to use a space until the reservation is confirmed.

Check special-event rules separately

The indexed City pages used for this guide do not establish one universal rule for alcohol, decorations, amplified sound, bounce houses, cleanup, refunds or cancellation.

If your event needs something beyond an ordinary picnic or gathering, ask Parks & Recreation before assuming it is allowed.
