Kirksville Regional Airport has the identifier **IRK**. ✈️😐

That is real. That is official. That is the collection of letters aviation chose to represent us.

**IRK.**

Not KIR. Not KSV. Not something dignified like KVX. No. We got the English verb for becoming mildly annoyed. 😂

## Honestly, it fits

Anyone who has lived here long enough has experienced the complete Kirksville emotional cycle:

1. “It’s only a little windy.” 🌬️
2. “Why is the sky green?” 🌩️
3. “Why is Highway 63 doing this to me?” 🚗
4. **IRK.**

You can almost imagine an airport employee answering the radio:

> “Welcome to IRK.”

And the pilot saying:

> “Yeah, buddy. I know.” 😭

## The airport itself is actually serious

This is the unfair part.

Kirksville Regional Airport is not some guy named Randy waving flashlights beside a cornfield. The airport has a real paved runway, instrument approaches, weather equipment, commercial service, maintenance capabilities and a long aviation history.

So the airport is doing professional airport things while wearing the nametag **IRK**.

That is like meeting a neurosurgeon whose license plate says **MEH**. 🧠

## You cannot improve this

Do not rename it.

Do not “fix” it.

Do not hire a branding consultant.

We already won.

Other towns spend enormous sums trying to create a memorable identity. Kirksville received one accidentally from aviation bureaucracy.

**IRK** is short, memorable, truthful and extremely Northeast Missouri. 🏆

If the City ever sells airport merchandise, there should absolutely be a shirt that says:

**WELCOME TO IRK  
WE'RE FINE.**

And nothing else.
