# What Survives of KTVO’s 1999 Website

A dated October 13, 1999 archive record confirms that KTVO had a homepage at ktvotv3.com, but the currently accessible evidence does not support a detailed visual reconstruction.

KTVO had a Web homepage at **[ktvotv3.com](http://ktvotv3.com)** by October 1999.

A surviving archive reference identifies a capture dated **October 13, 1999 at 18:42:34 archive time**.

That is enough to establish the existence of a preserved 1999 homepage record.

It is not enough, by itself, to describe what the page looked like.

## The archive record is specific

Later references to KTVO cite an archived source titled **"KTVO HOME page"** and point to the October 13, 1999 capture of the station domain.

That gives us:

- domain: [ktvotv3.com](http://ktvotv3.com);
- page type: homepage;
- archive date: October 13, 1999;
- evidence that the site was publicly reachable by then.

The domain itself also continued to appear in later station contact information.

## What the current research session cannot recover

The archive target is known, but the page cannot currently be rendered through the available retrieval path.

That means this article does **not** claim to know the 1999 page's:

- colors;
- logo treatment;
- navigation labels;
- headline text;
- image layout;
- weather module;
- sports section;
- station-personality pages;
- schedule links;
- advertising;
- counters, frames, GIFs or other period Web features.

Those things may have existed.

They are not established merely because many 1999 websites used them.

## Why "typical 1999 website" is bad evidence

It would be easy to reconstruct a plausible late-1990s television site from memory.

That would produce historical fiction.

An archived website should be treated like a physical artifact.

If the artifact is unavailable, the missing details stay missing.

The fact that the archive timestamp survives is evidence of preservation.

It is not a license to paint in the missing pixels.

## What a complete reconstruction would require

A proper walkthrough should begin by rendering the archived homepage and recording:

- visible text;
- top-level links;
- image filenames;
- page title;
- linked sections;
- missing assets;
- archived timestamps;
- source HTML where available.

Then the linked pages should be opened through the same date range.

That would make it possible to distinguish a broken archive capture from intentional design.

## The capture still tells us something important

By October 1999, KTVO was not merely a television station with a domain registration.

It had a homepage significant enough to survive as a dated Web archive reference.

That places KTVO inside the late-1990s transition in which local television stations were beginning to maintain a second publishing surface outside the broadcast schedule.

Exactly what KTVO put on that surface remains a question for the recovered page itself.

## The current conclusion

The surviving record supports this statement:

**KTVO had a Web homepage at [ktvotv3.com](http://ktvotv3.com) by October 13, 1999, and a dated archive capture of that homepage is referenced in later source material.**

It does not currently support a detailed visual tour.

That distinction is the entire point of digital archaeology: sometimes the timestamp survives before the page does.
