The Shadowlands' first volume of ghost stories reads less like a polished haunted-house guide than a filing cabinet overflowing with letters. Some describe famous places; others amount to one family's strange night.

[Browse Real Ghost Stories and Experiences — Group One](https://theshadowlands.net/ghost/story1.htm).

Its directory contains well over a hundred titled submissions, linked individually on one long page. The first entry is webmaster Dave Juliano's own story, followed by an update. Later titles range from *The USS Forrestal Ghost* and *Prom Night Fright* to *My House, My Toys and Me*, *The Ghosts of Okinawa*, *Toy Store Ranch Hand*, and *Poppa and the Pastry Frog*.

The juxtaposition is the point. A military ship, a restaurant, a basement, a cemetery, and a family kitchen receive roughly the same editorial treatment: a descriptive link and room for the witness's account.

## A ghost story has an author, not a ranking

The [Forrestal story](https://theshadowlands.net/ghost/ghost-a.htm) is among the separately preserved narratives, alongside memories of supposed activity aboard other vessels. The directory also points to tales about relatives who seemed to return after death, children seeing unusual figures, household objects moving, and places with reputations that preceded the storytellers.

Whether any incident had a supernatural cause is unknown. The archive records people's experiences as they reported them; it does not provide the documentation needed to establish ghosts as an explanation. Some accounts may reflect misinterpretation, embellishment, or folklore learned before the event.

What makes the page important as web history is its invitation at the bottom. Tina Carlson's email address is offered for new experiences, with a promise to treat contributors with understanding. Rather than votes, follower counts, or an algorithm, an editor and an inbox are what tie these pages together.

Older entries occasionally point to AOL-era addresses, personal domains, and other sites that no longer exist. Individual stories may fail to load even when their titles remain in the index. Preserving the list itself keeps a trace of those vanished contributions.

The Shadowlands' geographic haunted-place directory records *where* legends attach. This first-person collection records *who wanted to tell a story*, and how a tiny site could give that person an audience.
