An artist's work can be scattered across games, music releases, promotional tapes, websites, and books. The Osamu Sato Archive puts much of that scattered trail into an almost aggressively plain directory listing.

[Visit the Osamu Sato Archive](https://satoarchives.com/Archive/).

The archive is a fan-run collection, not an official publication by Japanese multimedia artist Osamu Sato. Its maintainer openly says they do not own the rights to the material. The important historical distinction is between the newer archive itself and the considerably older work it documents.

## Games, discs, and a web that disappeared

The [games directory](https://satoarchives.com/Archive/Games/) lists *Eastern Mind: The Lost Souls of Tong-Nou* (1994), *Chu-Teng* (1995), *Roly-Polys no Nanakorobi Yaoki* (1997), *LSD Dream Emulator* (1998), and *Tokyo Wakusei Planetokio* (1999). These entries preserve traces of a multimedia period in which CD-ROMs and early console releases frequently combined music, visual art, and experimental interaction.

The [music collection](https://satoarchives.com/Archive/Music/) extends the record backward to *Objectless* (1983) and includes 1990s titles such as *Transmigration* and *Equal*. A separate art directory catalogs *Alphabetical Orgasm*, *Anonymous Animals*, and a 1991 book about Sato's design work.

For an Ancient Web project, the most telling folder is [Web](https://satoarchives.com/Archive/Web/). It lists mirrors identified as the 1998 `compu-lsd.com` site, a 2001 `compu-osd.com` site, a 2002 version of `compu-lsd.com`, and later `osd.co.jp` versions. That is preservation of original web presentation, not just a modern biography saying those websites once existed.

## A changelog that explains the collection

The index retains a dated change log from 2018 through 2021. Entries describe improved cassette rips, scanned promo cards, corrected release years, additional disc images, and the arrival of the website mirrors in April 2020. It even records a corrected date for the work *Germination*, rather than quietly editing the record.

The server's plain directory layout makes authorship and provenance questions especially visible. These are filenames and catalog descriptions, not proof that every file can legally be redistributed or will work in a present-day computer. The archive is valuable as a map of media and vanished websites, even where the files demand rights and compatibility caution.
