An Imperial German spiked helmet looks easy to recognize until someone asks whether the spike belongs on a ball, a cross-shaped base, a fur busby, or a square-topped lancer's cap.

[Visit Kaiser's Bunker Pickelhaube Guide](https://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/)

The independent reference site **Kaiser's Bunker** makes those distinctions the organizing principle of its enormous illustrated guide. The [entry index](https://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/) divides the field into line-infantry leather helmets, artillery helmets with ball tops, Bavarian versions, **Tschako**, metal cavalry helmets, lancer **Tschapka**, **Husaren** fur headgear, and substitute-material wartime helmets.

The opening note says it is intended to assist collectors, not replace specialist reference books. It sends readers to detailed identification material and to photographs of examples in its artifact galleries.

## A front plate is a historical clue

The [line Pickelhaube page](https://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/pickelhaube.htm) describes the Model **1895** leather helmet and how its fittings could signal rank, region, regiment, and service branch. It distinguishes officers' purchased helmets from issued examples, then studies front plates called **Wappen**, cockades, chin scales, plumes, and visor shapes.

One table tracks the adoption of versions of the helmet by Prussia, Baden, Saxony, Bavaria, and other German states. Another set of [regiment charts](https://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/) aims to identify uniform details for units of the pre-1914 army.

The [artillery section](https://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/artillerie.htm) explains the **Kugelhelm**, whose round top took the place of the spike starting in 1844. The [Ersatz page](https://www.kaisersbunker.com/pt/ersatz.htm) tells a different story: as World War I strained leather supplies, substitute helmets appeared in felt, sheet metal, pressed fiber, cork, and other materials.

This is not just a page of uniforms. It shows how equipment specifications intersected with industrial capacity, service traditions, and the sudden pressures of war. And it does so by presenting artifacts as inspectable objects rather than merely naming models.

The pages inspected here do not specify the website's founding date. Their eligibility rests on the surviving old-style specialist reference, direct image links, and painstaking independent organization.

Kaiser's Bunker also says it is a **non-commercial reference** supported by visitors who help pay hosting fees. That is another recognizable old-Web arrangement: expertise published because someone wanted the details to remain findable.
