A fan-news archive becomes historical evidence when it keeps the updates from the days when nobody knew what would happen in the next season.

The unofficial Holly Marie Combs site is maintained in the voice of a fan named Dianna, with a 2003 news log that is considerably more interesting than a retrospective biography. The site's current welcome page describes an extensive photo gallery, news, filmography, and fan message boards. The dated archive lets readers see the earlier operation in motion.

Updates from 2003 record season-five and season-six Charmed television news, appearances by Combs and her castmates, and the small practical problems of running a celebrity fan site. In November the editor warned that a server move would take the site offline for about a week. Days later, she announced its return. Another update mentions fixing broken links in a photo gallery.

These are the marks of an actual webmaster, not a brand's retrospective timeline.

Fan work was also community work

The archive includes the usual things: promotional photographs, convention news, episode images, magazine interviews, and home-made video clips. But it also chronicles attempts to raise money for Thursday's Child, a charity connected to the site's fundraising efforts. In November, the editors offered clothing associated with Charmed for auction. A December entry reports a $90 donation received by the charity.

There is an invitation to sign a communal birthday card for Combs, a March note about replacing a malfunctioning chat room, and a November announcement of a teen advice section built by a contributor named Julie. Fans were producing a small publication and gathering place together, not merely clicking on pictures.

The archive's uncertainty can be instructive, too. June entries discuss rumors about a film title before the editor says she had clarified the matter with the actor's manager. It preserves how information traveled through fans, representatives, television listings, and message boards during the show's original run.

The site's welcome page has since been updated to mention later acting roles and a rewatch podcast. That does not erase the earlier newsroom. The 2003 updates still read like dispatches sent when next week's Charmed episode was genuinely news.
