To track one Old Norse poem across centuries of scholarship, you might need manuscript images, competing translations, dictionaries, and studies written in several languages. [GermanicMythology.com](http://GermanicMythology.com) tries to place all those paths on one enormous index page.

[Visit Germanic Mythology: Texts, Translations, Scholarship](https://www.germanicmythology.com/).

The site presents itself as a collection of research resources for the **Poetic Edda**, the **Prose Edda**, Icelandic sagas, skaldic poetry, Germanic languages, historical astronomy, and rune studies. Its front page alone is a sprawling bibliography, with links to scanned volumes, parallel texts, handwritten manuscripts, and recent scholarly resources.

## A reading room built from links

The section on the *Prose Edda* connects early printed editions with translations by writers including Rasmus Anderson, Arthur Gilchrist Brodeur, and Anthony Faulkes. A separate *Poetic Edda* section ranges from eighteenth-century editions to the **Codex Regius** and other medieval manuscript sources. There are linked notes on individual poems such as *Völuspá*, *Hávamál*, and *Grímnismál*.

The [main resource index](https://www.germanicmythology.com/) also groups material by subject. A visitor can move from the Norse world tree **Yggdrasil** to the historical drawings made of it, consult works on the legendary **Nine Worlds**, then follow links to archaeological sites and runic inscriptions.

The authorial side is explicit. A section lists original essays by **William P. Reaves**, including examinations of Thor, Heimdall, Freyr, Freyja, and the question of Asgard's location. Other entries highlight the nineteenth-century scholar **Viktor Rydberg** and arguments defending his interpretations. Those sections represent particular scholarly and sometimes contested viewpoints, not settled academic conclusions.

The copyright notice spans **2010–2022**, so this website should not be mistaken for an original 1995 homepage. Its qualifying preservation value is the old-fashioned, independently maintained reference architecture and the historical material it makes discoverable, rather than an invented launch date.

A researcher would still need to assess each source and edition separately. But the hand-built index preserves the connections between texts, translations, publishers, dates, and arguments that a search engine often separates into unrelated results.

It is an enormous bibliographic map drawn by people who cared about the routes.
