In November 1994, getting video-game reviews through a web browser was still a novelty. Game Zero was already offering news, console criticism, cheats, and staff pages to readers who knew how to find it.

The surviving gateway dates the magazine to 1992–1998, with its web edition operating from 1994 to 1998. It lists PlayStation, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Super NES, Genesis, Game Boy, PC gaming, and more. An editor identified as R.I.P. added commentary to the archive during 2000–2008. This is now an intentionally preserved publication, not a current games-news outlet.

News from before the platforms were settled

The archived contents page breaks the magazine into recognizable editorial departments: What's New(s), Featured Articles, Final Word Reviews, PC Gaming Arena, The Video Pit, Featured Comics, and the Pro Page for cheats and codes.

The hardware names are themselves a period snapshot. Alongside systems whose histories are now familiar, the introduction advertises the 3DO, Atari Jaguar, Sega 32X, Sega CD, and the Ultra 64, Nintendo's pre-release name for its next console. The publisher was writing about a future that had not yet sorted its winners from its losers.

Game Zero also maintained staff pages and a web-link directory for game developers, hardware manufacturers, and other fans. That directory is a reminder that, even for an online magazine, readers once needed editorial help finding the rest of the video-game internet.

The older layout retains image-based navigation, simple departmental categories, and copyright notices explaining that the magazine was independent of the companies whose products it covered. Some linked media and images may not function in present-day browsers, and archival existence does not guarantee every original issue is complete.

There is already an Ancient Web article on Game Zero's separate four-bit processor tutorial. The magazine's main archive is a different historical subject: the publication itself and the gaming news it captured during a period of rapid hardware change.

Today a review can appear within hours of a game release. Game Zero preserves a time when building a magazine on the web was still part of the experiment.
