Ancient Web: Frogland Has Been Froggishly Online Since 1995
Dorota's Frogland began in August 1995 and combines frog care, biology, coloring sheets, downloads, early browser games, personal photographs, and determined amphibian humor.

A few people collect frog figurines. Dorota collected so many frog-related ideas that she made an entire section of the early Internet for them.
Dorota says she started the site in August 1995 after receiving two fire-bellied toads as a birthday gift. Her about page recalls searching the early Web for frog information and finding only a handful of relevant homepages. Teaching herself to make webpages gave her a way to fill that gap.
The result is a cheerful collision of natural history and personal obsession. The main menu includes pet-frog care sheets, tadpole advice, unusual facts, frog vocabulary in different languages, ecological concerns, books, photographs, and educational resources for teachers. Nearby are coloring pages, frog jokes, a frog personality test, and downloadable desktop icons and cursors.
A whole web ecosystem for one animal
The pet-care section links advice on enclosures, feeding, dealing with insects, and choosing species. Another section offers early interactive games made with Java, Flash, and Shockwave. Those technologies are part of Frogland's history even though modern browsers often cannot run the original programs.
Its author explains that much of the art, backgrounds, and graphics were personally created. That helps explain why the page remains visually distinctive, with small illustrations and crowded navigational panels rather than a standardized publishing theme.
The site also preserves the economics of the personal Web. Dorota says it was not paid work and that she spent roughly fifteen hours a week maintaining it at one point. The online shop offered T-shirts, mugs, and mousepads partly to help with hosting costs. Those are the author's own estimates, not externally audited traffic or labor figures.
Frogland deliberately combines factual resources with entertainment. Its care advice should be checked against current veterinary guidance before anyone acts on it; the historical point is how one enthusiast used a personal page to share information, art, and community.
There are a thousand polished wildlife websites now. Very few invite visitors to watch the creator morph into a frog.
