Ancient Web: Commander Keen’s Megarocket Got an Imaginary Engineering Manual
A surviving DOS Classics fan page treats Commander Keen's Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket as a real spacecraft, complete with component diagrams and elaborate fictional technical explanations.

The Bean-with-Bacon Megarocket is a fictional spaceship from Commander Keen. Someone looked at that premise and concluded that what it really needed was an engineering manual.
Read the archived Megarocket Technical Manuals.
The page is credited simply to A.R. and describes itself as an unfinished set of working technical drawings for the ship. A large cutaway view is followed by an illustrated list of parts: car battery, computer core, control stick, propulsion system, fuel converter, landing legs, cables, coolant system, and even storage space for the candy Keen collects.
The mock specifications pile up with impressive confidence. The computer supposedly stores planetary coordinates in 71 gigabytes. A fictional engine claims impossibly fast travel, with a tongue-in-cheek explanation involving particles humans have not discovered. The spacecraft gets absurdly efficient fuel economy, while a joke about its propulsion compares it to Star Trek technology.
Fan scholarship, with all the facts made up
The point is not that the author mistook the game for reality. The technical voice is a playful attempt to treat familiar game details as if they were evidence of a coherent machine. It is the same impulse that produces diagrams of imaginary starships and painstaking encyclopedias about fantasy worlds.
The preserved DOS Classics mirror matters because the original page was part of an earlier fan-site network. It still carries a link to an old InsideTheWeb message board and decorative badges and graphics. Those traces locate the project in the period when a fansite's community might depend on a third-party guestbook or forum that could later disappear.
The original publication date is not established on this surviving page, and it would be misleading to claim that its illustrated components were verified working downloads or historically accurate technology. They are playful fictional diagrams attached to a surviving fan artifact.
A commercial release might supply a few lines of spacecraft backstory. This fan decided those lines were insufficient and built the rest.
