Adair County Public Library: A Guide to Services and Resources
Adair County Public Library offers lending, Missouri Evergreen access, computers, Wi-Fi, document services, digital resources, genealogy tools and community programming.
Adair County Public Library is more than a place to borrow books.
For Kirksville residents, it also functions as a public computer lab, document-service counter, research portal and community-resource center.

As checked in September 2026, current regular hours are:
- Monday, Thursday and Friday: 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
- Tuesday and Wednesday: 9 a.m.–7 p.m.

Check the live library page for holiday or weather changes.
Getting a library card
Current library rules say Adair County residents apply in person using:
- valid state identification;
- current Adair County address;
- proof of address when the ID does not show the current address.
The library also offers an out-of-county card under a separate annual-fee structure.
Fees and borrowing limits can change, so use the current card page when applying.
Missouri Evergreen expands the collection
Adair County Public Library participates in Missouri Evergreen.
That lets patrons search beyond the local shelves and request material from participating libraries.
The Evergreen app can also provide account access for things such as:
- holds;
- checkouts;
- renewals;
- charges;
- card barcode.
That makes the local library card more useful than the physical collection alone.
Computers and Wi-Fi
The library provides public patron computers and Wi-Fi.
That can be useful for:
- job applications;
- research;
- email;
- online forms;
- school work;
- accessing library databases.
Availability and time limits may vary, so ask staff if computer access is the main reason for your visit.
Printing, scanning, copying and faxing
The library currently provides several document services.
As checked in September 2026, its service page lists:
- scanning;
- black-and-white and color copying;
- computer printing;
- faxing;
- laminating.
Prices are inexpensive but mutable.
Do not rely on an old price table for a large job.
Digital resources
The library's online resources include material for:
- eBooks and audiobooks;
- general research;
- newspapers;
- digital skills;
- job and career research;
- health;
- legal and government research;
- children;
- genealogy and local history.
Some subscription tools require a library card when used from outside the library.
Others may be restricted to in-library use.
Genealogy and local history
The library provides access to genealogy tools and links to Missouri and national history resources.
For deeper Adair County research, pair the library with the Adair County Historical Society and local archival sources.

Technology help
The library currently advertises scheduled technology-help periods for basic help with library apps, patron computers, Wi-Fi and printers.
That service is not intended for financial transactions or bill payment.
Because program schedules change, verify the current calendar before visiting specifically for tech help.
Who needs a card?
A useful distinction is:
- entering the library is not the same as borrowing;
- public Wi-Fi is not the same as subscription-database access;
- digital resources may have different authentication rules;
- special programs may have their own registration requirements.
If you are new to Kirksville, the library is one of the easiest local systems to set up early because one card opens both physical and digital resources.
